“I have recently completed a PhD at the Centre of African Studies, University of Edinburgh, with a thesis on Somali entrepreneurship in East Africa’s trading hubs. My fieldwork for this research was conducted in the Somali areas of Nairobi and Kampala and in the Kakuma refugee camp. Prior to start my PhD, I have worked as free-lance journalist and producer, focusing on development and humanitarian issues in East Africa, the Middle East, Russia, India and Latin America. I joined the MeCoDem project to work on civil society and political communication in Kenya. Also in the light of my professional experience as a journalist, I firmly believe in the role of the media in shaping perceptions and narratives in conflict-prone situations”
