“For the last six years, I have been doing research around the use of the Internet during and after conflicts in the Arab world and I find this project of interest as it covers Egypt in addition to three other countries that witnessed conflicts in the past. My intent is to utilize my academic and professional background as a computer engineer and a journalist to link technology to media in new and interesting ways. Media scholars have to understand how the Internet is shaping our lives and affect conflicts and democratization processes. Furthermore, my work around Internet censorship and circumvention has convinced me that without a proper understanding of the underlying technology, social scientists will fail to grasp the main factors that make the Internet such an effective means of communication.”
